Santa Clara PONY Baseball League fields teams in 3 divisions, Pony, Colt & Palomino, from ages 12 to 19.
PONY:
Players come from anywhere within the annually approved Western Zone’s boundary map for Santa Clara PONY division. Check our Pony boundary page.
· New players must try out to be considered for the draft, and returning players return to their teams
· Traditional: Players are of league age 13 & 14, (Check Age Key on our FAQ page.)
"And Under": A player league age 12 may play up, upon request and approval
· Their home field is at Lou Vierra Field, located on an exclusively dedicated portion of the Cabrillo School campus, in Santa Clara, California.
· Their regular season usually runs from mid-March to mid-June.
COLT:
Our Colt program is aleady one of the largest in Northern California. And we are pleased to announce that starting with the 2011 season, our Colt boundary has been expanded to include the entire Northern portion of the State of California. Players may come from anywhere within that area of Northern California, starting to the North at the Oregon border, all the way down to that southern dividing line of our state, at the southern ends of Monterey, Kings, Tulare, and Inyo counties, and everything East and West from the Nevada border to the Pacific Ocean.
· Players are chosen by blind draft.
· Traditional: Players of league age 15 & 16. (Check Age Key on our FAQ page.)
"And Under": Players of league age 14 may play up to Colt if they wish, but all 14 year high school players, wishing to play up must make their high school team in order to play Colt for the Santa Clara Colt Program. All high school players may not participate until the end of their regular high school season.
· Their regular season usually runs from mid-May to beginning -July.
PALOMINO:
Players may come from anywhere within that area of Northern California, starting to the North at the Oregon border, all the way down to that southern dividing line of our state, at the southern ends of Monterey, Kings, Tulare, and Inyo counties, and everything East and West from the Nevada border to the Pacific Ocean.
· Players are handpicked by their teams and must sign team contracts.
· Traditional: Players of league age 17, 18 & 19. (Check Age Key on our FAQ page.)
· Their regular season usually begins in June and runs for approximately 3 months.
